If employee productivity is your main concern, then you are missing out on an opportunity to fine-tune yourself and maximise your own productivity. We’ve all done our research and know several factors relating to employee productivity. But let’s look at ourselves for a change. As leaders, we need to adopt a productive mindset to propel our organisations. Through trial and error, I have adopted three practices that steadily keep me in a productive state. Are your ready to harness your own productivity?
These are three things I do to increase my own workplace productivity with my employees.
An open line of communication within your organisation is key to creating a transparent workplace. I encourage my teams to practice straightforward communication. Exchanging personal or team wins, goals, setbacks or everyday chit-chat allows us all to build a friendly and trusting relationship.
I understand that my teams can travel across communication channels openly and that allows me to foster collaboration within our teams, decrease time spent addressing issues that could have been prevented and monitor project progression. A transparent leader can also establish and effectively share their goals for the company, better aligning teams with your vision.
With a transparent team, you are able to understand how each of your employees plays an integral part in reaching your goals and driving success. Transparency stimulates engagement, which is important in a remote organization like my own. I also find that having the ability to converse across the board breeds opportunities for teamwork and opens new doors. For example, a project that our content team is working on may be ideal content for our PR team to pitch. This allows me to be productive elsewhere as my teams can align themselves.
With a transparent outlook, any downtime is drastically reduced. If a problem arises, my team know that they can come to me for direction and support instead of winging it. I am able to remain conscious of any certain issues. I can help my teams troubleshoot and decrease any time I would have spent in the future addressing the issue.
If you are not currently using apps for automated task delegation and project progress monitoring, you may want to assess the time you spend doing these things now. Start slowly if you are just starting to embrace tech apps or software. Identify what you spend a lot of time on and if this time is well spent. Research your technology options.
You may experience a learning curve, but it won’t be long until you adapt and you can channel your efforts somewhere more pressing.
I am a proponent of Jira and Telegram. They are key players in boosting my own productivity because they allow for seamless project monitoring and communication. Jira allows for any team member to enter in their current project, it’s description and the current state of the project. This enables me to quickly view what is being worked on and if deadlines are going to be met. If they hit a snag I can quickly extend a deadline. Telegram’s encrypted instant messaging capabilities allow my team to communicate in a manner much faster than email.
You will quickly notice the payoff of using apps. It is a big timesaver. I find it is great for employees as well. They can share something or ask a question without shooting me an email (and tossing more of our productivity into the email pit).
Create An Effective Brand
Don’t underestimate the value of an effective brand strategy. If you haven’t already, dedicate time to create or rework your brand. Put the time into researching your competition, your consumer needs, your content and goals. If you smartly craft your brand, it will become the silent voice of your organisation. An effective brand will work for you, which is the ultimate productivity tool.
Leaders, do note that your brand must remain cohesive and consistent across all platforms you associate your organisation with. Stay in a proactive mindset. If any changes occur in your organisation or industry, it’s important to address them and maintain your foothold. Embrace scalability.
As an organisation leader, I take it upon myself to effectively strategise within my team and guide us towards success. Our brand facilitates me to supply a comprehensive outlook and maintain awareness of the expectations within my organisation. This fuels my productivity and engages my team, which is essential in any organisation. Collectively, a strong brand will drive your organisation and empower your teams. Once your brand is fine-tuned, you are able to engage consumers and flourish from there.
These three approaches allow you to construct a productive workplace mindset for yourself. These practices take time, effort and energy. But so did the work that you put in to establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry. Maximise your productivity now and spend your energy making an impact in your company.
